Examining contemporary implant dentistry: Enhancing patient care through scientifically supported concepts and techniques

Featuring Dr. Sonia Leziy, DDS, Dipl Perio, FCDS(BC), FRCD(C)

Course synopsis:

This presentation will explore how innovations and concept changes shape our skills and treatment planning solutions, while underscoring the importance of diagnosis and collaborative planning between the restoring dentist, technician, and surgical team members. Concepts that will be reviewed include virtual planning and guided surgery/provisional treatment, implant placement and restoration strategies, and management of hard and soft tissue deficiencies in the partially edentulous patient. Current diagnostic guidelines and methods to monitor implant health, and our approaches to reduce and mitigate disease risk, will be discussed.

Learning objectives:

  • Peri-implant diseases and complications: understand, minimize, and manage them.
  • Recognize why digital workflows dramatically improve accuracy and practice efficiency while reducing errors in the treatment planning phase, surgical protocols, and restorative design.
  • Deciding on immediate, early, or delayed implant placement and restoration protocols. Recognize the pros and cons of these decisions.
  • Soft and hard tissue enhancement procedures used in surgical practice today. Recognize what the surgical team can do, but understand the limitations.
