The 2024 AR/VR Symposium is the kick-off event working toward the establishment of a transdisciplinary center that will catalyze fundamental research, hardware advances, technology translation, computation, and application of AR/VR systems.

The University of Rochester, with its world-class research in AR/VR and component disciplines, is uniquely positioned to be an international leader in AR/VR. The mission of the proposed center is to be the focal point for AR/VR-related work in optics, materials science, acoustics, AI, data science, human-technology interaction, perception and cognition, as well as a hub for applications of AR/VR in education, research, workforce, and medicine.

The symposium will highlight the depth and breadth of AR/VR work at the university through presentations, hands-on demonstrations, lab showcases, and posters.

The afternoon sessions will include both a lab showcase and a poster session. The lab showcase presentations should focus on exhibiting a range of projects within a lab or group. The poster session presentations should focus on a specific AR/VR related project. Both can include demos.

The unique aspect of both is that we ask presenters to also imagine and speculate on what their area of work will look like in 10 years, given expected advances in AR/VR technology. Finally, students and postdocs presenting posters will participate in a poster prize competition.

This event is open to all UR and RIT students, staff, and faculty. Industry participation is by invitation only. Please contact us if you are interested in joining: studiox@library.rochester.edu
