This is a day-long educational event that has been designed to provide physicians, physician extenders, respiratory therapists, and nurses in the community with an update in the fields of asthma, allergy, and selected pulmonary topics. Program faculty include thought leaders of national and international renown. The interdisciplinary and inter-professional aspect of this CME activity makes it unique. The learning is interactive with case-based discussion and audience response systems in a large group setting. This year the sessions will focus on recent advances in the field of mild/moderate asthma including updates from NAEPP/GINA guidelines, the role of allergen immunotherapy, and how to incorporate as-needed ICS/formoterol in practice. Dr. Elliott Israel is the keynote speaker and will provide an update on severe asthma including phenotyping, biomarkers, and novel biologic therapies. Course faculty will discuss advances in the diagnosis of asthma including the role of exhaled nitric oxide, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), Forced Oscillometry, and Dynamic CT in the evaluation of asthma. Other topics include social determinants of health in asthma and the utility of race "correction" for PFTs. We will review COVID-19 recovery and vaccine updates as well. This 25th Annual Asthma and Allergy Update is a milestone event and particularly significant as this will be our first in-person regional CME event since the start of the pandemic.
