About this Event
We are thrilled to invite you to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the Black Alumni Network at the University of Rochester! Join us at this virtual event and raise a toast to three phenomenal years of empowering, connecting, and celebrating our vibrant community.
Since its inception, the Black Alumni Network has offered support and achieved success for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the University’s black community. Among other achievements, the Network has fostered meaningful connections, celebrated Black excellence, hosted events, and championed the advancement of our community on campus and beyond. This event will be hosted by Black Alumni Network Global Co-Chair, Sean Allen ’11S (MS) and moderated by Co-Chair Ashley Campbell ’09, ’10W(MS).
At this virtual celebration, we will be joined by the Black Studies Department’s two newest faculty, Jordan Ealey and Philip V. McHarris who will be presenting their current works. Ealey will share examinations of music theater written and composed by Black women from the nineteenth century to the present. McHarris will be discussing the day-to-day experiences of residents in a high-rise public housing development in Brooklyn, NY, delving into their concerns with safety, policing, building conditions, and cycles of poverty.
