Jim Mott: 20 Years of Socially-Engaged Art / Art Projects / Art Adventures

From his critically acclaimed Itinerant Artist Project to the more recent Landscape Lottery and beyond, Rochester-based painter Jim Mott has found innovative ways to make landscape painting responsive to everyday life – and to show its relevance as a tool for building meaningful connections between people, and a deeper sense of place and community. With images and stories from over two decades of socially engaged art projects, Mott reflects on the journey and opens up a conversation on painting as an integrative force in an age of disconnection.

Artist's Statement
It seems we can sometimes understand ourselves or find inner experience articulated through the language of the landscape - and in that connection recognize something within both landscape and self that is deeper and bigger than either.

Included with museum admission.
