A lecture by Barbara Carnevali (EHESS, Paris)
Barbara Carnevali is Professor of Philosophy at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and Visiting Professor in the School of Architecture of theUniversità della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland. She has been a fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Paris and the Italian Academy at Columbia University. Her work focuses on “Social Aesthetics,” an approach centered on the intersection between aesthetics and social and political questions. She is the author of Romanticism and Recognition: Rousseau and the Modern Self (Geneva, 2012, English translation forthcoming, Columbia University Press)and Social Appearances: A Philosophy of Display and Prestige (Columbia University Press, 2020), and she is currently completing a book on the relation between architecture, design, modernization, and politics in Milanduring the postwar period. She is also a regular columnist for the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
