  and the Italian Academy at Columbia University. Her work focuses on “So
 cial Aesthetics\,” an approach centered on the intersection between aest
 hetics and social and political questions. She is the author of Romanticis
 m and Recognition: Rousseau and the Modern Self (Geneva\, 2012\, English t
 ranslation forthcoming\, Columbia University Press)and Social Appearances:
  A Philosophy of Display and Prestige (Columbia University Press\, 2020)\,
  and she is currently completing a book on the relation between architectu
 re\, design\, modernization\, and politics in Milanduring the postwar peri
 od. She is also a regular columnist for the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
