HIV is now largely a treatable, chronic illness. It wasn’t always this way.
As part of ROC Pride Week, the Rochester Victory Alliance, located at the University of Rochester Medical Center, is hosting a candlelight vigil to honor Rochester-area victims of the virus and share information about the search for a vaccine against HIV/AIDS. Local activist Bruce Whitmore, who has been HIV positive for more than 30 years, is leading the event in Highland Park’s AIDS Memorial Garden at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
Participants are invited to speak in remembrance of friends and loved ones lost to the virus. A map to the garden is provided on the web link; signage and chalked sidewalks will be in place to lead the way from parking areas. Parking and the vigil itself are free and open to the community.
