An online seminar with Kimberly Campanello, University of Leeds U.K. and Nicoletta Asciuto, University of York U.K.

In this two-hour seminar, Asciuto and Campanello will discuss the contexts, aims and methodologies that underpin their translating/versioning of a range of texts to and from English, Italian, and French.

Campanello will present her approach to ‘versioning’ of Dante’s Commedia and her ‘writing through’ of texts by Marguerite Duras and Arthur Rimbaud to create her forthcoming novel, emphasizing her practical engagement with the ethics and aesthetics of poetic language(s) across historical contexts. 

Asciuto will talk about decision-making and the politics of translation at play in her most recent translation work, rendering Hope Mirrlees’s long poem Paris into Italian, and in her translation pedagogy, in her third-year UG module “Found in Translation: The Practice of Translating Literature”. 

Their individual presentations will be followed by a joint presentation on their ways of working together as Asciuto translates into Italian Campanello’s collection An Interesting Detail (Bloomsbury, 2025) and extracts from her Dante versioning.
