AS&E Deans’ Conversation on Topical Challenges: Reginald Dwayne Betts

Reginald Dwayne Betts will present “The Problem with Violence: the Inherent Contradictions in Criminal Justice Reform.”

A poet and memoirist, Betts is the recipient of a 2019 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He is the author of Bastards of the Reagan Era, A Question of Freedom, and Shahid Reads His Own Palm. His audiobook Felon will be released in October by Simon & Schuster.

Betts holds a JD from the Yale Law School, an MFA from Warren Wilson College’s program for writers, and a BA from the University of Maryland and is currently a PhD candidate at Yale Law School. He is a husband and the father of two sons.

Betts will give a poetry reading of “Felon: An Incorrect Spelling of My Name?” on September 12.
