The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Who should take this course:
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR is geared towards health care professions, prehospital care providers, law enforcement, fire fighters, and in-facility hospital care providers.

We at the Center for Experiential Learning believe everyone should know how to preform high quality CPR. All our programs are open to everyone.

This course teaches:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Comprehensive use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a BVM
  • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Initial certification and recertification of healthcare providers

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card, valid for two years.

 

Cost: $80 for the course, plus $19 for the optional manual. Payment by cash, check, credit card, or 312 Requisition is accepted. Medical students at the University of Rochester have the course fee waived, but are responsible for the cost of the manual.

 

Note: If you're over 15 minutes late to the course, both entry and refunds will be denied. You will need to register and pay for a new course.
