Building Literacy with Black Children's Literature: a Black Children's Book Week Celebration and Workshop

Join the Warner School of Education and Human Development and River Campus Libraries for a vibrant celebration and workshop on Black Children's Literature. This event is designed to showcase the full spectrum of Black Children's Literature. Bringing together educators, librarians, and community members to explore books that affirm, inspire and expand young readers' worlds! Whether you're building a home library or classroom library, learn how to build a curriculum for literacy for children for all ages including young adult literature!

You'll hear about selecting age-appropriate, culturally relevant books, organizing books to encourage independent discovery, and ways to maximize literacy for all readers. 

Whether you are building from zero or strengthening your existing collections, this workshop will equip you with tangible tools, recommended booklists, and strategic curricular choices to curate a library/collection that reflects the children you serve and the world around them!
