The number of clinical educators in academic medicine has grown in recent years, yet no consistent set of standards has evolved to assess the quality, scholarly approach and impact of their contributions. The educator portfolio (EP) documents educational activities in an organized format to showcase faculty achievements and scholarship.
The workshop leaders are experienced faculty who designed the EP template that has been included recently as an optional component of the application for faculty promotion at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. They have developed EPs for their own career development and promotion, and critiqued the EPs of many other educators.
In this workshop, after a brief didactic presentation covering the first two learning objectives, participants will work individually and in small groups to begin development of their own EP, using established scholarly frameworks (Glassick’s criteria and GNOME). In small and large group discussions, participants will analyze several sample EPs, and critique elements of their own EPs to apply what they have learned.
