Rishi Sharma graduated from University of Rochester (UR) in 2015 with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. He then stayed to get his M.S. in Data Science in 2016. After graduation, he worked as a Data Scientist at 1010Data, focusing on credit card analysis for financial indices.
Wanting to get involved in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Rishi became a research scientist in James Allen's ROCNLP group at UR. His research focused on natural language techniques for story comprehension and common sense reasoning. His paper, Tackling the Biases in the Story Cloze Test Endings, was published in the 2018 ACL. During that time, he started a freelance machine learning and NLP operation, contracting with local Western New York analytics business. His work involved analysis in customer attrition, product recommendation, and building virtual assistants for mid-sized and mid-to-large businesses.
In 2019, he joined Posh Technologies as an NLP Research Scientist. Posh is an early-stage startup spun out of an NLU lab at MIT, focused on building a chatbot development framework. At Posh, Rishi researches and implements different NLU solutions for chatbots and builds developer tools for productionizing those solutions.
Join us to hear about his career path, his work projects and his tips for a career related to data science.
