Join us to hear Part 2: Ligands in this three-part distinguished talk by Josep Cornella!

Josep Cornella graduated in chemistry from the University of Barcelona and carried MSc studies in the Department of Organic Chemistry. After completing his masters, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue doctoral studies in the group of Prof. Igor Larrosa (QMUL). After two postdcos in the grousp of Prof. Ruben Martin (ICIQ) and Prof. Phil S. Baran, he obtained a Max Planck Research Group Leader (MPRGL) position at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. In April 2025, he was appointed Director of the Sustainable Catalysis Department at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung.

Research in the group of Prof. Cornella focuses on the invention of new catalytic transformations based on cheap and abundant elements through rational organometallic design. The main goal is to provide efficient, robust and sustainable methodologies for organic synthesis while deciphering the mechanistic intricacies behind them.

Host: Prof. Rose Kennedy, Hutchison Hall 459, (585)-275-8778, c.r.kennedy@rochester.edu
