About this Event
The fluid that surrounds and permeates the brain plays a crucial role in brain health. It flows through the tissue, sweeping away waste and delivering nutrients as it circulates. This process, which primarily occurs during sleep, helps clear proteins linked to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
At the University of Rochester, a team of engineers, collaborating closely with neuroscientists, is uncovering the mechanisms behind these brain fluid flows. Their research is driving innovations to modulate these flows, aiming for better brain health.
In this webinar, Professor Douglas Kelley will discuss this groundbreaking work, highlighting new insights into swelling during strokes, a potential technique for targeted drug delivery, and promising experiments using existing drugs to enhance brain fluid circulation, even as we age.
