The Electron Microscopy Resource of the Center for Advanced Research Technologies is pleased to announce that we are now ready to accept samples for cryo-EM analysis on our FEI Talos L120C electron microscope.
Cryo-EM is the go-to technology for determining the 3D structures of macromolecules (from approximately 100 kDa up to 6 MDa in size) without the need for crystallization. The system here at the URMC is an excellent screening tool to evaluate sample preparations and generate low-resolution structures before sending a sample off to a facility with a more powerful system.
To assist researchers who may have potential projects for this system, we are holding two speed dating events on Tuesday, August 31st from 3 to 4 pm and October 14th from 11 am to noon. At these events, researchers will have time to present their project and/or idea to our panel including Ms. Karen Bentley and Dr. Chad Galloway from the EMR, Dr. Jermaine (JJ) Jenkins from the Structural Biology and Physics facility, and our special guest Dr. Qiu-Xing Jiang, director of the cryo-EM center at the Hauptman-Woodward Institute in Buffalo NY.
