Approximately half a million people develop C. difficile infection (CDI) each year. C. difficile causes diarrhea that can be severe and potentially fatal. The prevention of CDI in healthcare setting is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. Dr. Dumyati will describe the collaborative effort to combat this infection in the Rochester hospitals and nursing homes and will review the challenges and lessons learned in implementing such a program.
