Dr. Irma McClaurin, Keynote Speaker for the Susan B. Anthony Birthday Luncheon will join us on campus at University of Rochester on February 14 and 15, 2019 for several events including writing and teaching workshops and a discussion of her experience with community engagement.

This talk will build on Dr. McClaurin's experience as the founding executive director and associate vice president of the University of Minnesota’s first Urban Research and OutreachEngagement Center (UROC). She will explore the considerations involved in fostering authentic and sustainable university outreach with communities that historically perceive themselves as underserved and underrepresented, and sometimes think they are merely a laboratory for student learning. She will provide concrete examples of how UROC has overcome some of these barriers—and the hard work needed for others to replicate the process.
