This pop-up exhibition of three works by Elizabeth Cohen evidences her layered thought process as well as her incredibly broad skill-set. Cohen taught in the studio program of the Department of Art and Art History for nearly twenty year and directed the Art New York program for much of her tenure before she passed away in May of last year. Her art successfully mixed object, performance, language and time-based media. It synthesized technology, hand, concept and emotion—and it questioned them all simultaneously.
An opening reception is from, 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 5.
Pictured still: from the video “Numbers” in which Cohen asks participants to adjust their posture to match numerical forms. This is number one.
