Featuring: Jiebo Luo, Hanjia Lyu, Yipeng Zhang ’21, and Wendi Heinzelman

Presented by: The University of Rochester Alumni Board

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted people's daily lives and caused significant economic loss worldwide. However, its influence on public opinions and mental health conditions has not received as much attention. The rise of social media provides an opportunity to study many aspects of the pandemic, and recent advances in machine learning and data mining allow us to process and analyze data in new ways. Our panel—comprised of faculty and students from the Hajim School—will introduce a number of recent studies that delve into this. Participants will learn how college students respond differently than the general public to the pandemic, depression trends throughout COVID-19, consumer hoarding behaviors during the pandemic, and more.

Experience Rochester is a series of events created to bring the very best of Rochester directly to you. This special series exemplifies the University of Rochester’s commitment to lifelong learning.
