University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) clinicians and researchers have been at the forefront of the response to the pandemic since it began, including testing two of the three leading coronavirus vaccine candidates, participating in clinical trials of new treatments, and leading a study to examine the immune response to COVID-19. During this session, you will hear the latest on vaccine distribution, vaccine trials for children, and research on the new strains of the virus. Panelists will also take live questions from the audience.
Speaker Bios:
Stephen Dewhurst, PhD is vice dean for research at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Internationally recognized for his expertise in HIV/AIDS, he has more than 25 years of experience as a molecular virologist, working on both DNA and RNA viruses, including HIV and influenza viruses.
Nancy Bennett, MD, is a professor of medicine and public health sciences; founder and director of the Center for Community Health & Prevention; and co-director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
Angela Branche, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and co-director of the URMC Vaccine Trials and Evaluation Unit.
Mary Caserta, MD is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases).
Ann Falsey, MD, is a professor in the Department of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and co-director of the URMC Vaccine Trials and Evaluation Unit.
Dave Topham, PhD, is the Marie Curran Wilson and Joseph Chamberlain Wilson Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology, and director of the New York Influenza Center of Excellence.
