Feminism in the Digital Culture: Art and Social Practice, is a two-week-long visit of Polish contemporary artist, embroiderer, activist, and feminist - Monika Drożyńska, who visited the University of Rochester previously for an ecofeminism project in 2019. For her second visit to the University of Rochester, Drożyńska created an embroidery titled American Dream is Dream (that was later animated, see video here) commenting on current and historical inequalities, a well as on geopolitical similarities between often distant countries and situations. Her current project aims to enable a direct inquiry into the role and contribution of contemporary artivists and feminists to digital culture and digital humanities. She will hold a public talk as well as multiple workshops with students during her time here.

Monika Drożyńska will be presenting her artwork and discussing it on Wednesday, September 21st at 5pm in Sage Art Center. Refreshments will be served.

This visit is made possible with support from the Mellon Digital Humanities Grant, The Humanities Project, The Department of Art and Art History, and the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies.
