The Young Musicians Institute (YMI), led by a distinguished team of educators and musicians, offers a full-day immersive experience for young string players in Rochester. Under the guidance of GMF’s Director of Programs Armand Hall, RPO Assistant Conductor Jerrhard Hardeman, and teaching artist Joshua Henderson, students will engage in a dynamic and creative day of music-making.

Throughout the day, students will refine their technique, dive into the intersection of music and technology, and work on pieces they’ve prepared in advance. Along with plenty of breaks for food and fun, the heart of the day lies in collaboration: the students will join forces to compose their own music, exploring new ideas together and creating something truly original.

The day will culminate in a share-out performance on the grand stage of Kilbourn Hall, where the students and their teaching artists will present their collaborative compositions to an audience of family, friends, and invited community.
