Use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is increasingly ubiquitous in everyday life and for professional purposes. GenAI technologies hold significant potential for enhancing research, teaching and learning but their use also introduces significant challenges. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the GenAI landscape, discuss guidelines for research, education, and disclosure, and end with a discussion of future needs.

1. Describe the potential applications for GenAI in research and education

2. Describe the challenges associated with GenAI applications in research and education

3. Describe guidelines promoting the effective, safe, and ethical use of GenAI
