Bioethical Dilemmas in the Care of Older Adults

Nicholas Mercado, DrPH, MCHES, HEC-C, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Humanities & Bioethics, URMC

Bioethical dilemmas arise from conflicts encountered in moral choices about clinical issues in the care of patients. In geriatrics, these dilemmas can pose challenges for patients, clinicians, family members, and society at large. Understanding the tools and strategies for identifying and analyzing bioethical dilemmas in the care of older adults can decrease moral distress and injury for stakeholders involved.
