Application Deadline: May 10, 2024

Designed for University of Rochester Medical Center physicians, the Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP) offers a unique opportunity to sharpen your business acumen and strengthen your health care management skills, without the commitment of a full graduate degree program.

In response to the shifting landscape of healthcare, leaders in academic health centers are confronted with intricate and emerging challenges; as such, innovative methods are required to shape the future of healthcare management and create new strategies for success.

The program’s targeted curriculum is taught by Simon Business School faculty and is designed to yield maximum results while meeting the needs of a busy, physician audience. Split into four modules, the program focuses on various aspects of health care administration: leadership, finance, strategic management, and quality/performance improvement. Each module consists of one cohort-based weekend session, leveraging networking opportunities and interactive education; additional content is delivered through online asynchronous assignments.

Modules

Strategy for Health Care Institutions (September 6-7)

The purpose of this module is to develop an understanding of strategy development in health care institutions, including the planning processes and frameworks for strategic thinking which are often used.

Health Care Finance (October 18-19)

In this module, basic concepts in health care economics and financial accounting are presented, to enable participants to understand the financial data used to make financial decisions in hospitals and medical centers.

Organizations and Leadership (November 1-2)

The United States health care system faces unique challenges that require extraordinary leadership and organizational behavioral competencies. In this module, using behavioral models, participants develop ways of addressing these challenges while increasing individual, group, and healthcare organizational effectiveness.

Quality and Performance Improvement (December 6-7)

In this module, participants develop an understanding of how to employ data-driven decision-making to improve care delivery and some of the common techniques used to identify the causes of problems and the best available solutions.
