In the field of narrative medicine, the practice of writing a private “parallel chart” encourages physicians to record
patients’ stories and their own emotional responses in a separate document to the medical chart. As a poet, narrative
medicine scholar, and Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine student, Maya J. Sorini will explain her practice of writing poetry as parallel charting, and share how it has changed her practice as a budding clinician. Part poetry reading, part introduction to narrative medicine, this talk explores how reflective practices can facilitate personal growth and emotional wellbeing for clinicians across healthcare.
