The biopsychosocial approach to medicine requires attention to the multiple biological, social, financial, and cultural aspects of patient care, including systemic racism, which impacts access to quality healthcare and causes Black women to experience higher risk for pregnancy complications. Dr. Giunta and Dr. D'Angio reviewed the literature on disparities in NICU quality, care, and outcomes. Dr. Guinta will present the results of this review, provide an ethical analysis of entrenched disparities, and discuss opportunities for future improvements.
