Sustainable Labs Initiative is hosting an Investigators for Sustainable Labs training to train the next generation of investigators in green lab practices. This training series is sponsored by URMC MyHub, and utilizes the My Green Labs Ambassador program as the training platform. This training series will also include guest speakers from university departments such as sustainability, facilities, and the biological supply store, that will lead discussions on current practices at UR. 

The instructor of the training, Dr. Samantha Romanick, is a My Green Labs Accredited Professional and a microplastics researcher in the department of Biomedical Engineering with a passion and goal to inspire the practice of sustainable habits by investigators inside the laboratory at UR.

This training will include the following meeting times and topics, and food and refreshments will be provided: 

  • Tuesday, February 4th, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, 1-9576 Ryan Case Method Room: 
    • Green lab practices to save energy.
  • Tuesday, February 11th, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, 1-9576 Ryan Case Method Room: 
    • Green lab practices to reduce waste.
  • Tuesday, February 18th, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, 1-9555 Louise Slaughter Room:
    • Green lab practices to reduce water. 
  • Tuesday, February 25th, 3:00 - 4:30 pm, 1-9576 Ryan Case Method Room:  
    • Green lab practices to promote green chemistry.

Syllabi will be emailed to registered participants on Friday January 31st, 2025. Quizzes will follow each discussion and after the completion of all four discussions and quizzes a certificate of completion will be issued. In-person attendance to all four trainings is mandatory for certificate completion.
