https://ccc.rochester.edu/event/3314020What does it mean to be a journalist in the Middle East when journalism is one of the most dangerous jobs under authoritarianism? How did the Arab Spring affect journalism? What is the role of social media in combating autocrats in the Middle East? is it a double-edged sword?
We have invited Marwa Morgan, an Egyptian multimedia journalist who works as associate editor at Google and used be a member of the MENA team in the Committee to Protect Journalists in NYC. She will be bringing her experience to us and discussing the future of journalism in the Middle East and violations against journalists. Furthermore, professor Jack Paine from the Political Science Department will be talking about the role of media in authoritarian regimes and when autocrats use it as a tool from an academic perspective.
All in all, Student Association for the Development of Arab Cultural Awareness (SADACA) will be bringing you different perspectives on the issue!
