What if your whole family fought for freedom? What if all your siblings were cool?

Join us for this launch event - live or via ZOOM - of a digital history project dedicated to spotlighting a remarkable family of white anti-racist Abolitionists from rural eastern Connecticut. From 1830 to 1890, Burleigh family members were Abolitionists, reformers, and poets, intent on making the United States a place of freedom and equality for all. Although they were well-regarded by their contemporaries, the Burleighs' materials and stories have largely been overlooked before now. This project combines a wide array of archival materials, from artifacts to letters to newspapers, to present a vigorous family history with a political edge, while addressing issues that remain with us today.
