Movie Screening: Tropa de Elite

Join us this Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 pm in the Humanities Center, Conference Room D, for a special screening of Tropa de Elite (2007, dir. José Padilha), one of the most polemic and popular Brazilian films of all time. Prof. Pablo Sierra will lead a brief discussion of the film's recent implications in light of Jair Bolsonaro's recent election as president, his expansion of gun ownership and police immunity.

The Undergraduate History Council is a club for undergraduates who are majoring, minoring, or simply interested in everything History! We meet weekly for game nights, movie nights, and study hours. We co-host special events like movies, lectures, and career events with the History Department and other undergraduate councils. We also run trips around Rochester to explore the all the history our city has to offer. Our meetings are from 7-8pm on Thursday evenings in Rush Rhees 362, and times for all other trips and special events will be posted well in advance. If you are interested in joining, please add us on CCC, and please email either Sam Schacht (sschacht@u.rochester.edu) or Elise Lia (elia@u.rochester.edu) if you have any questions!
