 lina State University!\n\nAbstract: Selective and efficient reactions of p
 olypeptides in living systems are enabled by a range of enzymes and molecu
 lar machinery even in a complex mixture of cellular components. During the
  past decades\, nonenzymatic reactions or chemical modification of polypep
 tides have been extensively studied by addressing challenges of aqueous ch
 emical transformation of the polyfunctional biomolecules for various purpo
 ses such as creation of therapeutic agents as well as investigation of bio
 molecular processes in many contexts. Nonetheless\, realization of selecti
 ve\, effective chemical reactions of polypeptides in aqueous media represe
 nts a formidable challenge. Recognizing the existence of nonaqueous enviro
 nments where polypeptides would not necessarily lose their structural inte
 grity or functions\, the central theme of the Ohata research group is to e
 xamine chemical reactivities of polypeptides in nonaqueous media. One aspe
 ct of the research campaign is to achieve nonaqueous bioconjugation for cr
 eation of therapeutic agents such as antibody–drug conjugates. This pres
 entation also describes another direction of the program about chemical re
 activities of polypeptides in prebiotically plausible conditions such as t
 hose in the early Earth and other astrochemical events.\n\nHost: Rose Kenn
