Dr. Shander will share modern strategies for patient blood management such as those related to his expertise in blood conservation in medical and surgical patients, volume resuscitation, management of anemia, perfusion techniques, novel hemostatic agents, and artificial blood. His work complements research at URMC demonstrating the risks of transfusion including increased rates of infections.
