Physics & Astronomy Colloquium

Jonathan Carroll-Nellenback. "The dynamics and observational signatures of atmospheric loss from exo-planets with orbits of only a few days"

Signatures of ‘evaporative’ winds from exoplanets on short (hot) orbits around their host star have been observed in a number of systems. In this talk, we will discuss the launching of those winds, their evolution as they leave the planet and enter orbit about the host star, their subsequent interaction with the stellar wind, magnetic field, and radiation pressure - and the resulting observational signatures expected.
