Polish Film Festival Part II: Silent Night

Silent Night, Cicha Noc, 2017, 105 min.  Directed and written by:

Piotr Domalewski  Principal Cast:Jowita Budnik, Adam Cywka, Maria Debska, Katarzyna Domalewska, Konrad Eleryk, Ewa Gapon, Radoslaw Hebal, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Elzbieta Kepinska, Andrzej Klak

The premise of the film is simple. Adam comes home from his job in the Netherlands for Christmas, armed with euro bills, a small digital camera and a sonogram of his unborn baby. Adam confronts his family – his parents, siblings and cousins, who seem to be stuck in the discouraging setting of rural Poland. He, on the other hand, wants to leave the country for good and start a new life together with his pregnant girlfriend. What his family doesn’t know is that Adam has an ulterior motive for the visit—one that will force a reckoning with the dark undercurrents of Polish family life.
