Do you want to better understand Putin's Russia? This talk, based on Dr. Hutchings's most recent book, presents a new perspective on how Russia projects itself to the world. It argues for the need to pay attention to deeper, trans-state processes over which the Kremlin exerts much less control. The notion of mediatization--how social and political practices in Russia follow media-driven logics--is central. Of these media-driven logics, the feedback loop is the most important in understanding how recent issues, events, and scandals have played out in international arenas ranging from television, through theatre, film, and performance art, to warfare.
