Benjamín Castañeda, PhD, Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, will present, "Developing Health Technologies for Inclusive Medical Care: The Successful Case of Asynchronous Tele-ultrasound in Peru."

His talk will cover the development and deployment of a low-cost, portable, asynchronous tele-ultrasound system designed for use in rural areas with limited healthcare infrastructure and no specialized medical personnel. The system enables minimally trained health workers to perform diagnostic imaging, benefiting over 3,000 patients across diverse regions of Peru. The presentation will also cover AI-based guidance for offline use, interdisciplinary challenges, and future expansions to integrate additional asynchronous diagnostic technologies.
