Public Health Grand Rounds

The Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Events

The presentation will outline the evidence supporting LDL cholesterol as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease events (including myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from them). It will also outline evidence supporting new medications to lower this risk, new cholesterol guidelines, and study evidence supporting the lowering of these events when adults take a very high dose of an omega-3 fatty acid called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). It will also provide knowledge regarding the team-based approach used in URMC preventive cardiology.

Presented by:

  • Dr. Robert Block, Associate Professor, Dept. Medicine, Public Health Sciences
  • Dr. Geof Williams, Professor of Medicine, Psychiatry and Psychology, Center for Community Health & Prevention
