Lisa Uddin, Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Culture Studies and Paul Garrett Fellow at Whitman College, will deliver the Celeste Lecture, which may take the form of a traditional talk or a work-in-progress seminar.
She will also offer a workshop on professional matters with graduate students in the program during her visit. An alumna of VCS, Professor Uddin is the author of Zoo Renewal: White Flight and the Animal Ghetto. She is at work on Sunspots: Black Cosmologies of California Design, and recently has been editing "Black One Shot" for ASAP/J with Michael Boyce Gillespie (http://asapjournal.com/tag/black-one-shot/). Both of these projects are committed to exploring black expressive practices and culture.
