Senso di Voce, in collaboration with the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, presents Sonic Impressions, a virtual concert and talk inspired by the current exhibition Renaissance Impressions: Sixteenth-Century Master Prints from the Kirk Edward Long Collection, which explores the emergence and transformative impact of the print medium on the visual culture of Renaissance Europe.

Join us virtually on Zoom on Sunday, February 6, at 2 pm for the closing program and the debut of this project. The concert will be presented as a video piece, recorded safely inside the Docent Gallery and showcasing immersive footage of the duo performing inside the gallery as well as the artwork their music engages with. The event will also feature a live talk about the work, as well as a live discussion and Q&A, including audience questions.

In this special one-time event, art and music lovers alike will not only have the chance to closely explore the art in this special exhibition, but also delve into the imaginary world of sounds that the Renaissance prints have inspired in this transformative duo!

Senso di Voce is Esin Gunduz (voice/composition/harmonium) and Megan Kyle (oboe/English horn). In Sonic Impressions, the duo presents a musical program that reflects and recontextualizes selected artworks from the Renaissance Impressions exhibition, highlighting aesthetic links among the sacred, the grotesque, and the sublime in this extraordinary print collection. Through poignant Renaissance motets, a heart-rending Medieval troubadour song, and the transcendent sounds of Sicilian, Sardinian, and Anatolian folk musical traditions, Senso di Voce illuminates connections of timbre, embodied sensation, and emotional impact in order to bridge apparent divides of history and geography. Skillfully crafted transitions transport audiences from the sound world of one piece to the next, and from one artwork to the next.
