The University of Rochester Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics invite you to the Tana Grady-Weliky Annual Lecture to celebrate inclusion and excellence in medicine. Dr. Grady-Weliky was a senior associate dean for education and a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry. She was nationally recognized as an expert in medical student education and in the treatment of women's mental health disorders. This endowed annual lecture series honors her memory and dedication.

This year's lecture features Dr. Wendy Gonaver, the Paul M. Schyve Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics, and explores efforts to increase Black student matriculation and graduation in the 1960s and 1970s at the University's School of Medicine and Dentistry. The lecture is followed by a panel discussion including leaders in the fields of health equity and education.

This event also recognizes Dr. Bertrand McClendon Boddie (1924-1990), the second African-American graduate of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, in appreciation for his leadership on inclusive recruitment. A plaque dedication for Dr. Boddie will take place in Flaum Atrium following the lecture and panel. Artwork by Dr. Boddie's daughter, Lydia Boddie-Rice, will be exhibited and permanently installed in the Center for Experiential Learning.
