DESCRIPTION:When conducting Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) research
\, it is vital to get input from the communities that may be impacted and t
o ensure they are fully informed. Francis Guyette\, MD\, MPH\, from the Uni
versity of Pittsburgh will share how to build a community consultation and
public disclosure plan for an EFIC study. \n\n1. Community consultation /pu
blic disclosure is not one size fits all. Different communities require dif
ferent strategies.\n2. Community consultation requires active listening and
good survey tools.\n3. Electronic means of communication are necessary but
not sufficient.\n4. All studies have vulnerable or underrepresented popula
tions\, partner with them.\n5. Don’t pay for the same real estate twice. Ma
ke your public disclosure efforts broad.\n\n###\n\nThis event\, hosted by
the Trial Innovation Network\, is available to the University of Rochester
community via the UR Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
