This month’s concert of the Third Thursdays with Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ at the Memorial Art Gallery concert series will feature the works of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Bach is quite famous for compositions from the middle and latter parts of his life, but the music he wrote as a young man is finely crafted and not to be overlooked. This program will focus on Bach as a young organist and pedagogue, with chorale selections from the Neumeister Collection of the Bach circle, and the Sibley Chorale Book, housed here in Rochester and likely written by Bach’s students c. 1730-1740. Selections will be played and sung by organists from the Eastman School of Music Organ Department.
Admission to the concert is included with museum admission, which is half-price on Thursday evenings after 5pm and free to University of Rochester student ID holders. This concert is made possible by the Rippey Endowed Trust.
