This month’s Third Thursday with Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ at the Memorial Art Gallery concert series will feature a varied program of fantasies from across Europe ranging from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Fantasies were a popular musical form for centuries, written for solo instruments to showcase the composer and performer’s musical skill and imagination. Organists embraced the fantasy, using intricate and expressive musical techniques to explore a wide range of effects. Featuring Eastman’s Italian Baroque organ, “The Art of the Fantasy” will be performed by Associate Professor of Organ Nathan Laube from the Eastman School of Music.
Admission to the concert is included with museum admission, which is half-price on Thursday evenings after 5 pm and free to University of Rochester staff, student and faculty ID holders. This concert is made possible by the Rippey Endowed Trust.
