Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science for the Tripods 2021 Careers in Data Science Lecture Series. The series brings undergraduate and graduate STEM students together with STEM PhDs who are working in Data Science. Each lecture will begin with a 20 minute presentation by a STEM PhD, followed by a question and answer session designed to give participants insight into working in the data science field, and the skills they need to successfully enter the industry.

10/18 Abstract: Dr. Kevin Lin received his doctorate degree in mathematics from the University of Rochester in 2017, studying probability theory under the direction of Professor Carl Mueller. Today he works as a machine learning staff software engineer at Upstart, an AI lending platform that partners with banks and credit unions to provide consumer loans using non-traditional variables. Learn about his winding path from doctorate candidate to software engineer, and his take on how to translate a mathematics doctorate into a rewarding career in data science.
