About this Event
Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science for the Tripods 2022 Careers in Data Science Lecture Series. The series brings undergraduate and graduate STEM students together with STEM PhDs who are working in Data Science. Each lecture will begin with a 20 minute presentation by a STEM PhD, followed by a question and answer session designed to give participants insight into working in the data science field, and the skills they need to successfully enter the industry.
2/7 Abstract: Ian Alevy earned his PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Brown University in 2018. Since completing his postdoc at the University of Rochester, Ian has worked as an algorithm developer and software engineer for defense contractor SciTec. As a contractor for the federal government, SciTec develops tools to protect the nation from evolving threats. Due to the complexity of modern threats, the firm relies on mathematical algorithms and AI systems to respond to new and unexpected scenarios. In his presentation, Ian will talk about his company and the many applications of math to missile defense and software engineering.
