Dr. Kermin Martínez-Hernández, Principal Facilitator at the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) and Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY, will be giving a Wellness and Resilience Workshop for students on November 17th.

His host is Dr. Lynne Maquat; sponsored by a supplement to the NIH NIGMS T32 in CBMS.

The learning objectives for this workshop will be: (a) Increase understanding of wellness and resilience and their influence on mentor-mentee interactions; (b) Recognize the impact of traumatic experiences on the mentor-mentee relationship and acquire skills to manage them, and (c) Identify concrete strategies for learning about and building resilience. Through a case study, participants will be able to experience first-hand how a graduate student went through a traumatic event and provide strategies to build resilience in dealing with the situation presented. In the end, some concrete resilience strategies will be shared with the participants.

This workshop is open to everyone, primarily graduate students of all genders.
