OSF is phasing out OSF Projects as an active collaboration and storage workspace. Published OSF Projects will remain available in a static form indefinitely, but active projects should migrate to alternative platforms. OSF itself will continue, with a renewed focus on supporting open, connected research workflows through Preregistrations. Attend this event to learn your options at the University of Rochester.

Join the URochester Libraries for a hands-on workshop on creating web maps with Leaflet, a free and open-source JavaScript mapping library. Participants will learn how to take location data stored in a Google Sheet or other hosted CSV file and display it on an interactive map that can be shared on the web. Along the way, we'll explore how to add map markers, organize data into layers, customize symbols, and create popups that display information from your spreadsheet.

No previous web mapping or programming experience is required. The workshop will introduce the basics of HTML and JavaScript needed to work with Leaflet, but the focus will be on adapting and customizing existing code rather than learning to program from scratch. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a working interactive map and a foundation for creating their own spreadsheet-driven mapping projects. All are welcome and questions are encouraged.

This workshop is taught by Digital Scholarship and is part of the Data Bloom Workshop Series, run by the Data Services Team. Please visit our webpage to learn about our other offerings.

Currently, it is difficult for doctors and nurses to distinguish clinically between vertigo caused by peripheral vestibular disorders (a problem involving the inner ear or vestibular nerve) and vertigo caused by stroke (a medical emergency), and many patients are kept in the hospital for long evaluations and costly imaging such as MRI to ensure patient safety. We have developed a virtual reality (VR)–based battery of tests designed for rapid assessment of vestibular and cerebellar function at the point of care. In this talk, I will describe our system and present preliminary findings to demonstrate the type of data we are able to collect with our system. I will then describe future plans and present lessons learned while developing a VR system for medical diagnoses.
